5.00 PM - 6.00 PM
Base rent for Assisted Living cost can grow substantially as the stay continues. Be aware Medicare does NOT pay for Assisted Living Room and Board- but does pay for some medically approved services on site. Qualifications for admittance require evaluation for mobility and anger issues. The first Level of Service is called Supervisory which is really just the Staff noticing how the resident is getting around and enjoying the facility. The second Level is Personal Care Services of hands on "care" with bathroom activities, eating and getting around which requires various amounts of Expensive Staff time which requires increases in monthly fees. Also at this level you may be told that the facility staff may need to be supplemented by outside caregiver visits especially for nite duty. Supplemental visits are arranged by YOU and are very expensive and often not dependable. The third Level is basically creation of a full time Safety Dementia/Alzheimer's environment possibly in a locked wing of the Assisted living facility if available and State Approved as Memory care. Keep in mind that the facility manages and recommends these levels and there is a great difference in level of training and experience involved. Staffing is often used an excuse for poor outcomes. Minimum experience is required to be hired. Training consists of 50 hours and can be completed while already on the job.Staff turnover is constant and pay and benefits are low. Also there is always the Corporate Profit motive at work constantly advising that profit targets need to be met. The levels of "care" do not require formal formal training and yet can be very expensive as add ons. Often these are new surprises the next month. Your management of all this can feel like a part time job.
